Ohio will receive $400 million from the Obama administration to improve schools

The U.S. Department of Education announced  that Ohio was among nine states and the District of Columbia that will receive funding in the second round of the $4.35 billion Race to the Top competition.

Other winners: Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, North Carolina and Rhode Island.

"Every state that applied showed a tremendous amount of leadership and a bold commitment to education reform," said Education Secretary Arne Duncan.  "The creativity and innovation in each of these applications is breathtaking. We set a high bar and these states met the challenge."

Long-term Investigation by Federal, State, Local Authorities Results in Arrests and Charges on Liquor Permits
 
COLUMBUS – Criminal charges have been filed against five individuals and administrative charges have been filed against three liquor permit premises following a two-year food-stamp fraud investigation by agents with the Ohio Investigative Unit (OIU) and officers with the United States Department of Agriculture – Office of Inspector General (USDA).
